What useful computer skills should I learn?
I am very adapt with computers. I’ve worked in computer repair stores, I’ve built many of my own, I can do just about anything on a computer that a typical tech-savvy person will need.
However, I plan to learn some new skills that will help me earn money. I’ve looked into affiliate marketing & affiliate blogging, and the market just seems too narrow. What skills should I learn that I can make money with? I’ve thought about C++ and other programming languages, but to master them at a usable level takes years, and may require some background skills that I do not have. E-bay is easy but I have no products to sell. Any other ideas? Can mastering photoshop get me anywhere?
The problem with affiliate marketing/blogging is that it takes a while to get started. You need A LOT of content, which takes weeks. Even so, there’s nobody to tell you if you’re doing something wrong… if there even is something wrong. I’ve done it before and I felt like I wasted a lot of time since it got nowhere. Photoshop seems like a better bet, but asking a few art majors, they all said that finding the job is the hard part… with this economy it’s getting even harder. I was leaning more towards things like web design.

I cleaned up photos of kids for $40 a pop. I got tired of it.
Affiliate marketing might work.
The newer Photoshop versions (CS2 and up) are very powerful.
In the past, I have used Photoshop alone for digital design and for photo restoration. It’s not easy to master, but you can make good money using it properly. Still, that’s assuming you can find the work.
Learning photoshop was one of the best decisions I made when choosing something new to learn on a computer. It’s helped me a lot in the designing of my website. Learning coding such as HTML, PHP, CSS, or learning how to use MySQL databases could get you into a company dealing with websites. You can always give Illustrator a go, its great for any visual work you want to do, whether it be designing e-cards, or designing backgrounds for websites.
Hope this helps,
Luke
