What is Affiliate Marketing really?
Ok I wanted to get into the business and I’m getting a lot of mixed reviews of what it is and if it really works. Is it just all the ads we see on websites to click on it and it sends us to another site? Also what options are best? Please help cause when I started to learn about it, it really sounded to good to be true that you could just work at home on your computer doing simple stuff and make an income. Tell me the cold hard truth cause I dont wanna start this and not get where I wanted, im not trying to get rich or anything I just wanna try something new to get extra money. But I wanna make sure it works cause I dont want to waste my time and money cause it takes both to make money. Explain everything you know about affiliate marketing and get best answer…thanks!

Keyword research is also important in creating content and getting traffic to your site. If you just write articles and blogs with no keywords, how is anyone supposed to find them?
Avoid Direct Linking
Unless the product you are trying to sell has an extraordinary sales page that converts like hotcakes, you should not try to direct link. Direct link is where you include your affiliate link (or a domain forwarded to your affiliate link) in the resource box of an article. Creating a landing page and linking to it will allow you to “pre-sell” your visitor by giving them more information on the solution to their problem.

Some people will tell you that you should dive right into Pay Per Click advertising if you want to make money, but this isn’t exactly true. OK let’s start with the most basic definition of affiliate marketing; Affiliate marketing is where you market another vendors product whether it be a physical, digital, or service for a commission.
Yes it really works but it is a whole lot of work. If you are starting from zero knowledge you will need to do a lot of research on the subject. I wish I could tell you specific websites to go to but I’m not allowed to on Yahoo Answers unless it’s a website owned by Yahoo. I do know of some source material you can go look at.
The ads you are referring to are called banner ads and yes that is part of it but not all and I’ll explain. Some affiliate program sites that you sign up for have these banner ads and when people click on the banners it sends them to the vendor site with your site specific code attached to it and if they buy this product or any other product while they are there you will get a commission for it. You do not want to have a website with just these type of affiliate ads on it, it make your site look like a billboard. Use 2 to 3 of these at the most. The other type of affiliate links are word links. These are the words you see in the body of the site and they are either highlighted in blue or another color and sometimes underlined. Then you have picture links where it shows the product itself and may have the price attached to it and when it is click on you again have the same end result as the banner and word links.
Options: Which options are best I would assume is what products are best. What I will tell you on this is to go to a keyword search site and type in products that you think you might be interested in marketing and the results will come up with a monthly statistic on how many people are searching for that product within the U.S. and globally. Use words or phrases you would use to search for something yourself, the search will come up with related phrases to your search so don’t work yourself over trying to think of the best way to phrase something.
The reason it may seem to good to be true is that some of these things you may have read may have talked it up a made it sound like you will make money overnight. For most this is not the way it works, there of course are those few who will be the exception to the rule and will make money faster than others.
Cold Hard Truth: The truth is you need to have the drive and want to learn everything you can about affiliate marketing, without the will to want to succeed and the will to learn and teach yourself to do this you will fail. This will take time to do so expect it now. You can work this as a supplemental income as you are referring and to do this you need to at least dedicate a couple hours a day into it.
Yes it takes time and money but I can tell you how to start out for nothing. Decide what you want to market and that takes research. Create a website and you can do this by using a blog rather than creating website. A blog is essentially a website you just have to decide on a template you want to use and customize it to make it look professional. You do not have to buy a domain name or pay for hosting. If you do not know how to use a blog you can go to social video sites and you may know the one that most everyone knows about especially when they refer to a video that goes viral and inquire on how to use the blog you chose to use as your website. You should come up with some results. So far this has cost you ZERO. When using a blog make sure to have content in the body of the blog and not just links to affiliate sites. Make it relevant content to the product you market. In the content you want keywords which should pertain to what ever you market, so say you market widgets then you want the word widget through out the content. This percentage should be 5 to 10%, so for example you have 100 words you want 5 to 10 of those words to be widget.
Sign up with the affiliate providers to get your product links, if you go to a place that asks you for a fee to sign up with them move on to another provider, you should not have to pay to use them. You will be asked to give information as to name,address and either a SSN or EIN . This is for payment and tax purposes so expect it.
Get your links on your site and when your ready submit the site to a least the three top search engines. Then start marketing. I know this is not specific to direct you to exactly where to go to do this you’ll just have to figure that out yourself, sorry.
You need to check with your city government with regards to business license and find out the requirements.
