Thinking about advertisement on my website?
I am in mist of creating a website and one of things that has been weighin on my mind is selling advertisement space and im not exactly sure how i am going to do it. i do plan onhaving a couple of spots for “pay per click” through affiliate sites, also i am thinking about renting specific spots to whoevers interested either on a weekly to a monthly basis but im not exactly sure what its worth. do i put some kind of program on my site that tracks how much traffic
each ad gets and if so, what program do i use and how much do i charge per hit. OR do i charge by the size of the ad and where its placed ?
BTW, lets keep google adsense out of this one

You may charge certain amount as fixed annual charges plus some small amount say, two or three rupees per hit.

honestly before advertising to other people that you sell space, build your traffic first. Make sure you have a good traffic flow, because for me I never buy ad space from anyone unless they have good traffic – ignore page rank etc… its the traffic that matters in advertising. However when you do charge charge by size of ad and location that you put it. For instance most sites homepage gets the most hits and publicity so that would charge the most, however I have sites that the home page isn’t frequented as much as the inside pages…
In the meantime however I would ad something like auction ads to fill the space & make a little money while you are building – in fact I did a recent case study here that shows what auction ads is and hows it used if you want to check it out

I like the idea of selling ad space on your site to people and I really think in the long run it will be a great idea, but don’t get ahead of yourself, build the traffic and maintain the traffic on a consistent basis then worry about selling the space. You’ll want to build an opt in email list as well so that once the traffic starts flowing to your website you can keep getting them back as repeat visitors.
