If you have a really interesting website with a good traffic flow and good rankings, can you actually make any real money with pay per click ads, or affiliate marketing?

Of course you can. It is all about creating quality content (that has a high demand) and networking. Make a website about something you are passionate about (sports, cooking, fashion, etc).
indeed – if you have traffic, people will click on the ads.
